Obama to China: Uncensored society is healthy

President Barack Obama pointedly nudged China on Monday to stop censoring Internet access, offering an animated defense of the tool that helped him win the White House and suggesting Beijing need not fear a little criticism.

Barack Obama listens to a question from a woman

The president's message during a town hall-style meeting with university students in Shanghai, China's commercial hub, focused on one of the trickiest issues separating China's communist government and the United States ? human rights.

It was a delicately balanced message and Obama couched his admonitions with words calling for cooperation, heavy with praise and American humility.

"I think that the more freely information flows, the stronger the society becomes, because then citizens of countries around the world can hold their own governments accountable," Obama told students during his first-ever trip to China. "They can begin to think for themselves."

I believe he doesn't like FOX news for their very partisan views.

Anyways, he's talking to China about their censorship of the internet. this is good.

Correction, he doesn't like them because THEIR partisan news isn't towards Democrats, nor him. The other stations were practically gushing over Obama.

Still not what we're talking about.

What do you guys think of China's Internet Censorship? I don't think it's a good idea for the people, just the government.

No, thats not it.
Fox news is just full of slander at every single thing that Obama does.
Nothing he could do is good enough for them.
Its a biased republican news network, its not fair and balanced, its just an outlet for their party.

I can take the baseball game pitch for example. The dip****s reporting it on Fox claimed he scooped it out of the dirt while playing footage that shows him catching it.
I don't know about the other networks, but the hippocacy Fox shows between presidency is proof of their agenda.
I mean FFS, they have Glen Beck.

Lastly, its not censorship. Censorship would be telling Fox News what they can and can not say, not barring them from a news conference because they can't be trusted not to skew the **** out of anything. Infact, thats freedom of choice right there. Don't like what they say or how they act? Don't do deal with them.

Re: Obama to China: Uncensored society is healthy

Have you paid attention to the OTHER half? All they did was gush over Obama for months, and months. Open your eyes. Neither side is any good.

You know.. I heard Glenn Beck had a book out that did nothing but spill out facts and sources.. and was pretty good.

This was recommended by a liberal. I don;t follow Fox News or the Rest like Olbermann who drink out of Obama coffee mugs while in Obama pajamas singing Kumbiya Obama.

So why can't these guys support the presidency? What exactly has Obama done to deserve to be referenced as hitler or stallin?

And thats not even the issue your brought up. Why should the white house give space to a new network that does nothing but smear the hell out of any press release?

Given the choice out of the two types (praise or smear) which outlet would you choose to get the truth out as skewed as little as possible?

But in case you would like to know, the white house denied access to Fox because they claimed they are not "fair and balanced". You calling them a partisan news source means you understand they are biased to the party they are backed by/support. I don't see what the problem is.

You "heard" it was good. You did not read it. So much for independant thinking right?

Beck is just a retarded sensastionalist that gets off in spreading fear while gathering die hard followers.
To the people who follow him, ALL HE DOES is spill out "facts" and "sources".
I'm sure death panels were "facts" and the bill containing it that he didn't read was a good "source".
When he starts drawing on his blackboard and jumping to conclusions I''m sure they think hes a genious.

All that aside, Obama is not a perfect president and has his issues. But he is far from the image Fox news unfairly and biasly displays him as. Thus the white house has every right to bar them from press conferences.

Re: Obama to China: Uncensored society is healthy

Give me a break. Those same news stations used to bash Bush regularly. Don't even begin to demean my intellect or talk down to me like you have some kind of way to look down at me. I am one of the people who will suffer greatly under Obama's Socialist Dream. Why? Because I choose to live the American Dream... and succeed. I have worked.. and wish to reap the benefits of the work ---> I <--- Have done. The sweat and blood I have sacrificed for this country. Yet every penny I have slaved my ass off to earn will be given to the poor. Meanwhile, Obama is making MILLIONS, tripling our deficit, and forcing a health care plan down our throats that would make me put over 50% of my wages into taxes and "Government APPROVED" healthcare!!! Ridiculous! I didn't serve in this country just to give to everyone else, and lose my rights.... Such as my second Amendment right to bear arms.

Which.. the banning of guns, is PROVEN to increase crime rates, not lower them. As you take the weapons out of the hands of those who are not prone to use them wrongly, and those who are, will just use them and keep them illegally anyways!

His comparisons to Hitler ARE accurate. Do some research on Hitler's early years. There are a ton of similarities..

Everything Obama does makes me sick. From his desire to squelch those using the First Amendment, to trying to disable the Second Amendment. From his taking from those who have worked their butts off to give to those who have contributed and done nothing their entire lives. Even throwing a clause in there that "during the tax season, all those without pre-government approved forms of health care will be penalized severely... but illegal aliens are exempt" -Blink- What? So I served my country, but Illegals cannot be held up to the same standards? Nice.

I LIKE having a news source that plays the other side as well... Even if I don't care to look at ANY news, because it's all pretty much crap anymore. Because whether you like it or not... ALLLLLLL news agencies are biased in some form or another. Because SOMEONE holds the key to the kingdom. That someone in each organization has an opinion. That opinion gets pushed. The white house tried to deny them because they weren't fair and balanced in THEIR direction. Quit being such a sheep. I don't read Glenn Beck, and I don't buy into Keith I'dLetObamaDoMeInTheButt Olbermann. Because I am tired of the ineffective downward-spiralling bi-partisan government we are riding straight into the gutter.

There is no free and neutral press. Get over it. Open your other eye. If you want to know about my independent thinking, let me know. But don't attack me as not being an independent**** thinker. You're not man enough to do so.

I don't like Obama.. simply because I see right through him. Because I know how to say all the right things to get into a woman's pants... Just like he knows how to say all the right things to manipulate you and the other sheep. He speaks of helping poor people, then will spend at least a million dollars in tax payer money... just to take Michelle out to dinner in NYC........

If you post news about Obama this WILL happen again you cant stop it.

Actually, you're kind of abusing your power because you're not getting the input YOU desire.

A comment on Obama and his desired censorship of Fox News is directly related to the discussing of Obama's desire to preach of censorship of ANYTHING to anyone else being a form of blatant hypocrisy....

Re: Obama to China: Uncensored society is healthy

That one isn't as funny. There are no ugly naked people in bed together.

How old are you? How much do you make a year, Stubbs? How hard did you work to get to that point? Did you let someone else give you your grades? Did you let someone else work for you to build up your name, your reputation, and give you credit for a job they did? Did you do it yourself? Do you still live with your parents? What kind of health care coverage do you have? Do you believe in Global Warming? What race are you?

These are all vital questions when I am curious about your political background. Most of Obama's followers are pretty easily blueprinted. Hell, most right wingers are too. I am neither. Lefties just happens to be the current people screwing up our country, and sadly, at a much quicker pace than the righties were.

All joking aside...

Bi-partisan politics keep you pointing fingers at the other side, instead of realizing the true enemy... lies on both sides.. They are leeching off of us at ALARMING rates, making money, passing laws that they are exceptions to!, bouncing checks to their OWN House Bank (over 12,000 bounced checks by our members of the house at one point, but... we should trust those who cannot balance their own accounts to run our economy?), meanwhile we are in a recession... while their own pockets get filled. The problem isn't Democrat or Republican.. it is in the politicians, and the indifference of our country. We are sitting back.. forgetting why and how our country was founded... fat and lazy... While they give more and more power to a centralized government...

Censorship of those who oppose you.. is just the beginning. Freedom of speech leaves.. and the second amendment will attempt to follow...

I fear for this country I have sacrificed many years of my life for. And for what? To feed those who choose not to help themselves? To struggle to make ends meet for my OWN family in the meantime? And while the politicians themselves.. take 5 pennies for every 1 I give to the poor who "need" or need it?

Re: Obama to China: Uncensored society is healthy

How old are you? 15

How much do you make a year, Stubbs? around $50

How hard did you work to get to that point? Pretty darn hard

Did you let someone else give you your grades? Obviously if I scored my own papers, they wouldn't be an accurate judge.

Did you let someone else work for you to build up your name, your reputation, and give you credit for a job they did? No. I personally did all of the work to be able to run a 5:30 mile, be in a college math class as a sophomore, got 9th in math team state, and get a 3.9 GPA

Did you do it yourself? No, I hired a monkey.

Do you still live with your parents? Yes.

What kind of health care coverage do you have? Union

Do you believe in Global Warming? Yes

What race are you? Human
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Any more questions?

Also, I agree with you that Americans in general have gotten a bit too lazy.

Why is that always brought up? The Chinese don't own us, but some of their businesses have U.S. treasury Trusts on our debt. The Chinese government itself has no hold on us.
